Denaun Porter is one of the best producers you might not know. A product of the hallowed streets of Motown, Mr. Porter is a member of Eminem's Dirty Dozen crew as Kon Artist. That means he grew up cutting his teeth at some of the finest grassroots hip-hop institutions in the country.
Mentored by Proof (RIP), Naun built himself up as a producer by studying the greats, including local legend J Dilla. Through his non-stop support of Eminem's endeavors (he became the MC's hype man after Proof's passing), Denaun also ended up under the tutelage of Dr. Dre.
Years of behind the boards work has landed the congenial producer credits with 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Jay Electronica, Pharoahe Monch, and Guilty Simpson. Still, his low profile has kept hidden his own talents as an MC and singer.
That seems to finally be changing. His sTuFfInMyBaCkPaCk project will finally see Denaun from Detroit stepping to the forefront as himself.
The first taste is the playful and vulnerable "Told Y'All" featuring Rapsody and Scram Jones. Continuing the lineage of good music set by the likes of Slum Village, Denaun seems to have finally come into his own as an artist.
