Why do we like this?
It's hard to fathom that 13 years have passed since hip-hop supergroup Deltron 3030 (comprising Dan The Automator, Del The Funky Homosapien and DJ Kid Koala) released their stunning self-titled debut. A concept album set in the year 3030, it tells the story of Deltron Zero's (Del) one man quest to take down the evil corporations that rule the world. Universally praised (and one of my favorite concept albums), the trio having been talking about a follow-up for years without any results, until today.
After years of setbacks and red herrings, the first official single "City Rising From The Ashes" has finally hit the Internet, and I'm loving it. Although they did preview a track called "Pay The Price" early in the year, it was available on their website for 24 hours, although you can listen to a dodgy version on YouTube here.
Del's socially aware lyrics are delivered in his trademark quirky style over a jivey beat incorporating old school turntable scratches. It's a definite head bobber, and with mention of the Iron Sheik's patterned Camel Clutch finisher, I'm all over this one and you should be too.
