Why do we like this?
It's almost New Year's Eve, and what better time to boost up your deep house/techno dance party library than now? For those who are unacquainted, I'd like to introduce you to Deetron, Swiss house producer-extraordinaire. This day and age, DJs tend to be polarized along lines of whether they use digital or vinyl formats. Deetron, on the other hand, is known for his sophisticated blend of both formats, bridging the yesteryear with our modern world.
"Starblazer" is off Deetron's mid-2011 two track EP called, you guessed it, Starblazer. It's a perfectly balanced house track, fit for any dance floor. At 125 BPM, "Starblazer" is relatively flat yet infectious, complete with emphatic piano and some semi-professional humming. The bass line rolls in like a thick ocean fog at about 1:45, the right moment to lose all your earthly awareness. Easy to do, with a massive production such as this.
Also top notch is his Balance 20 mix, which incorporates an amazing track list including Todd Tejre, Julio Bashmore, Nicolas Jaar, Four Tet, and Minilogue, to name a few. Check out his preview mix here, and you will see why DJ Mag named it their #2 mix of the year.
