Close Counters has steadily been building their name as remixing masters. In between releasing their original dance-worthy singles and playing sets at Australia’s eminent Falls Festival, the Tasmanian-based duo has released quality reworks of tracks by Pretty Lights, Hermitude and LEWES. They've most recently re-worked “Hidden,” a smooth R&B single originally produced by Lithuanian artist Deep Shoq featuring vocalist Kotryna.
The remix opens with a smooth, jazz-infused keyboard motif that echoes the seductive melodic structure of Austin Peralta. Close Counters has kept Kotryna’s original slinky vocals, but added layers of wobbly synths and crunchy drums to give the track a glitchy and future-beat vibe. Weaving in their trademark chord harmonisations and laid-back stagger beats, Close Counters really showcase their punchy production skills in this one. It’s worth listening closely for the small samples of vinyl scratches and the variety of cymbals used in this fusion of electronic and industrial garage genres.
Earlier this year Close Counters released “Picture Me,” the first single from their upcoming sophomore EP. Indie Shuffle Founder Jason Grishkoff described it as sounding “a lot like the type of music I wish Disclosure had released on their new album.” Urban-electronic producer Deep Shoq is also worth checking out – he was nominated in the 2015 Lithuanian National Music Awards as one of the Best Electronic Acts in the country. He’s released four EPs, one of which was featured on King Britt’s BBC Radio 1 guest mix for Benji B. “Hidden” has also been remixed by fellow Lithuanian producer Rushkeys and Polish producer Teielte, and the Close Counters remix is available for free download through their SoundCloud.
