Why do we like this?
To be fair, I was only drawn to this tune because of Sigur Ros frontman Jonsi's involvement. The Icelandic singer has a phenomenal voice that could put a crying baby to bed, and this collaboration with ne0-folk act Death Vessel is a fitting release.
The brain child of Joel Thibodeau, Death Vessel is a rotating selection of musicians helping to bring Thibodeau's poignant indie folk creations to life. "Ilsa Down," a tranquil duet, is the first single from Death Vessel's February release, Island Intervals. What stands out is the distinct vocals of the two singers, with Thibodeau's earthy tones mixing well with Jonsi's probing falsetto over layered instrumentation.
Elegant and calming, "Ilsa Down" is a tremendous success, and I for one will be checking out Death Vessel's earlier material.
