A personal favorite of mine, Day Wave, has just released the second single off of upcoming EP, Crush, out on April 24th via [PIAS] Recordings. The one-man band comprised of solely Jackson Phillips has built his musical wave (pun) off of a strong signature sound consisting of trademark guitar arrangements and lo-fi vocals to compliment.
The four songs on the EP were produced, mixed, and mastered by Phillips himself. A labor of love, the result showcases Day Wave's evolution as an artist while remaining akin to the dreamy soundscapes he has constructed in previous works.
Reconnecting with his roots and confronting challenges regarding purpose and identity, Phillips had this to say about Crush:
I was really just trying to make sense of things for myself with this EP. It’s easy to feel isolated, like your thoughts don’t matter or that you’ll never be good enough, but writing these songs was my way of trying to rid myself of those toxic ideas and open myself up to a better way of living. It was my way of trying to figure out who I really was.
We stan Day Wave for his music and for being open about his mental health struggles.
