Why do we like this?
Ukuleles and synthesisers? You had me at hello. Day Joy didn't even need to explain the whole "we make lush dream folk landscapes" etc, etc. If ukuleles and synth isn't something to make your mouth water, then I don't know what will. You may be a lost cause. But Day Joy isn't. They're awesome. Think dream pop and folk, breathy vocals with some introspective lyrics and an ethereal sound. Dream folk that'll lull you into bliss, a reminder of early Grizzly Bear material.
Hailing from Orlando, the five, sometimes six, piece band had humble beginnings as a two person act formed by college buddies Peter Michael Percevel and Michael Serrin. Together, they transformed their band into something bigger and better (literally!), so lucky for us we now have dreamy folk recordings to enjoy.
Back in August, Day Joy was listed as one of Paste's "Top Florida Bands You Should Listen To Now." I don't know much about the Florida band scene, but I'd have to agree they're definitely a band to watch. Top Florida band? Well, I don't know. Dream folk band to keep your eyes on? You bet. Especially since their debut LP comes out in early February -- the perfect gift for your hip significant other. You can follow them on their SoundCloud for more info.
Also, don't miss the band's really intriguing video, directed by Michael Lawrence and Alex Amoling. It's well-produced. I recommend you check out more of Michael's, videos - there's some really fun stuff to watch on his Vimeo page.
