Why do we like this?
I just came across this beautiful track by Dawn Golden and Rosy Cross. Despite what the name suggests, this is not a combination of two girls, but a moniker for 25-year-old Chicago based producer Dexter Tortiello, a left field signing to Diplo's Mad Decent label.
So despite all the curveballs the name and label send, this is neither blue-eyed 60s soul, nor is it moonbahton or any other of the seemingly endless genre's Diplo is somehow involved in.
Instead, this song takes elements from folk and indie rock and mixes them with a drum/bass section scored straight from hip hop. It's an interesting idea, and truth be told, one I'm surprised hasn't been explored more. But for Dawn Golden and Rosy Cross, this is surely just the beginning.
