Darren Cross is the chameleon of the Australian music scene. From his early days with alternate act Gerling to his electronic experimentation as The E.L.F. and his folk noir dealings as Jep And Dep, Cross has managed a presence, although not always as prolific as he might deserve.
This might all change with the upcoming release of his debut solo album, No Damage. Recorded with Dave Mudie (Courtney Barnett) on drums, the album's first single "And The New York Rain Came Down" is Cross at his most vulnerable.
Armed only with his acoustic guitar, earnest vocals, and Mudie's light percussion, Cross channels Beck and Ryan Adams with his heavy hearted alt-country stylings. Lo-fi and authentic, Cross displays a melancholy honesty that finally exposes who the real Darren Cross is: a passionate and gifted singer songwriter who we should not take for granted.
