Why do we like this?
I'm having déjà vu right now, sitting on my couch and writing about Nicolas Jaar again. Last night I confided to my keyboard, aka not so confidentially, that I've been running into/stalking this deliciously talented artist via EPs, remixes, and mixes all year.
Somewhere literally between his EP from the beginning of the month and remix of Architecture in Helsinki's newest single "W.O.W," he also managed to release a three-track EP collaboration with Dave Harrington called DARKSIDE.
The tracks are simply entitled "A1," "A2," and "A3" - the simplest thing about the finished package. Jaar and Harrington offer vocals which have a classic Jaar approach, piquant and repetitive. The EP feels more like you've happened upon a jam sesh between the two artists than a production in itself. The stand out of the EP is definitely "A1," strutting its stuff all over bridges, loops, and a wonderfully complex ending.
Normally artists tap out their creative juices and fall flat when they release this much music back to back to back, but Jaar must have the best muse out there (plus a matching haircut with Harrington). For more Nico and Harrington as DARKSIDE check out Jaar's own label Clown & Sunset on Soundcloud.
