I'm more or less at a loss for words right now as I sit here looping "Bad Dreams" from LA artist Alec King and Swedish producer Danrell. I know I like the track, but I can't quite put my finger on why.
Is it the carefree nature of Danrell's sun-soaked beat? Is it Alec King's deceptively skilled ability to slip between pop and hip-hop aesthetics? Is it Geoff Owens's short, but oh-so-sweet guitar solo? It's probably some combination of all three, and how the tune, found on King and Danrell's recently released Morphine EP, feels greater than the sum of its silky smooth parts.
