Danny Lubin-Laden, based in Oakland, is the organizer of Brass Magic, one of the Bay Area's most prolific bands of the moment. This brass-playing group knows how to get the party started in any setting, at any time, with a group of eight incredibly talented jazz musicians. I cannot express enough how much fun these guys are live, and if you have the chance, get to their show, it will not disappoint.
Danny formed the group shortly after moving from New York City to the Bay Area. While in the Big Apple, he took advantage of the amazing amount of talented musicians by playing in a multitude of jam groups.
Although he has put in an remarkable amount of time and work on Brass Magic, the release of his first solo album, shows an incredibly gifted trombone player in his prime. The self-titled effort is outstanding from top to bottom.
"Mama's Song," is the intro track to the album, which features the soft and seductive vocals of Ashley Nguyen. Her beautiful voice combined with a somber, yet uplifting trombone melody is so wonderfully composed, it's hard not to play repetitively.
