Listening to Dan Deacon can be a pretty frenetic experience. But it's a good kind of frenzy, one that makes you want to get up and dance like a 5-year-old (which, if you've gotten to attend his live shows, is more or less a requirement).
What's impressive is that, through this ecstatic, volatile reaction, you can't help but hear the sophistication and serious thought that goes into his compositions (see: classical compositions, film score for Francis Ford Coppola).
"Lots," the first single off his forthcoming album
America (out in August on Domino Records) is unmistakably, recognizably Dan Deacon -- a smattering of sounds harken the songs arrival, suddenly bursting forth into layers upon layers of rich, harmonious sound. Deacon's ability to remain an electronically-oriented musician while still maintaining some of the structure of the best pop songs is what makes his tracks so intoxicating and listenable; "Lots" exemplifies this sound and this skill.
Dancing like a 5-year-old yet? Come August, no one will be sitting still.
