I rarely ever feel this way about a track I hear, but I am absolutely floored by this song. It is a testament of what is possible when an artist takes what has been given to them by their musical ancestors and twists it in order to make something completely fresh—very similar to what Bryson Tiller did when he helped usher the 'trap-soul' sound into the mainstream consciousness.
"Lester" by L.A. based band Dan & Drum is one of those songs that you will have to listen to a couple of times in order to fully immerse yourself in the 808 and guitar driven sonic landscape; however, once you're there, it's difficult to detangle yourself—and I can't think of a single reason why anyone would want to.
The raw vocals and lyrics are superb as they gracefully chop their way through a skittish melody that literally gives me chills every time I listen to it.
