Why do we like this?
If you're going to listen to one new hip-hop producer this year, make sure it's Damu The Fudgemunk. Since I'm based in the UK, I can't say for sure how well known he is, but I'm pretty sure the answer is not very... and that's something that I really think should change.
I know a lot of people use the idea of making hip hop for people who don't like hip hop in a pejorative way, but it has to be one of Damu's biggest strengths. Now I'm sure some of you reading this don't like hip hop, in any way, shape, or form. But listen to this, and I'm sure you'll be converted. How can you not like the careless beat, luring you in? And just because the haters might love it, it doesn't mean the lovers hate it. Most of the hip-hop heads I know are absolutely digging his stuff at the moment. Damu seems to have found a sound for all markets here.
With influences ranging from Dilla to Madlib, Damu's music is set at a level that anyone can listen to.
