Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice came into the spotlight when his track "The Blower's Daughter" hit the airwaves in 2002. As a part of the soundtrack for the film Closer, the track struck a chord with many hearts. The song was heart-wrenchingly sad.
Since then, he's released two albums and has gone long a hiatus. Eight years to be exact. But now the Irishman is back with a collection of new songs that will be appearing on his third album, My Favourite Faded Fantasy.
The second track to appear from the album is titled "The Greatest Bastard." With his creaking vocals and quiet guitar strumming, the lyrics once again visit the subject of love and heartache. When he asks, "Am I the greatest bastard that you know? The only one who let you go? The one you hurt so much you cannot bear?" there's almost nothing you can do other than bare the whirlwind of emotions it makes you feel. He ends it all by crying, "I never meant to let you down."
The track will be officially released on his album My Favourite Faded Fantasy due out on October 31 via Warner Bros.
