I also feel like there are traces of the old Coldplay on this. Try swap out the lyrics in your head with, "And you try your best but you don't succeed..." The actual sounds might be different, but the mood is similar.
"Lost and Alive" has actually gone in my moods playlist, which is designed to pull me out of confusing moods with songs that let me feel somber and emotional, but turn up the energy levels through musical nuance.
It's a weird playlist that often moves me from tears to "I'm going to buy a bolo tie because I can do whatever I want" levels of joy -- just like this song.
