If you’re in to a bit of dreamy pop with a touch of electronica thrown in, you couldn’t do much better right now than "China Shop," the debut single from Canadian duo Daemon & Airdrie. The focus is very much on the lyrics here, as Marley “Daemon” Iredale and Jesse “Airdrie” Thom combine against a background of stripped down instrumentation and a slow, steady beat.
“China Shop” is the first release from Iredale and Thom. The pair have a history of performing in Canada and the UK on the folk scene with the band Dirty Grace, which was fronted by Thom. They founded Daemon & Airdrie in late 2016 with the aim of combining electronica and pop with their songwriting talents. They bring their own personal experiences with love and relationships to their music making, having spent ten years in an open relationship.
The duo has opted to avoid using laptops in the production of Daemon & Airdrie's sound, preferring instead to rely on analogue tape effects, samplers, and old tubes to compliment their use of instruments when performing and recording.
They plan to go on their first tour with their new project this summer. Their first shows have already been announced around British Columbia, at their website, with more to follow soon.
