My god. What. A. Song.
Sure, D.R.A.M has recently been in the media for his woes concerning Drake and "Hotline Bling," but this track is far more worth your attention. Smooth and seductive, "Caretaker" is equal parts '90s-R&B-throwback, and bang-on-trend 2015 sensuality.
I've adored and championed vocalist SZA for a long while now -- to me, she's one of the most exciting, if criminally underrated female artists in R&B today, and this collaboration is stunning. SZA takes the lead for the first two minutes, drawing you in with her breathy vocals, before D.R.A.M's smooth, slow -- almost drowsy -- melody dances atop an emotive piano line and a sparse rhythm.
Gahdamn indeed! This is a phenomenal single. To be paired with red wine and scented candles.
D.R.A.M's new EP, Gahdamn! is out now. I highly recommend you check it out.
