Why do we like this?
Step into the psych-pop sound of Cymbals Eat Guitars' new single, "Definite Darkness." It's a wondrous teetering blend of progressive pop and psychedelic grunge that refuses to meld into one specific genre; the same goes for the band itself.
As I listened to this track, I felt slightly teased. Just as they were drifting toward an upbeat pop feel, it swiftly shifted to a laid back, progressive grunge sound and then as quickly as it came, I find myself catching onto the chilled out psychedelic break down. It's a beautiful mixture that isn't easily accomplished. This is probably why this band has been going strong for the past four years.
Good news for you avid Cymbals Eat Guitars fans! Their album release date for Lenses Alien was moved up from September 13 to August 30... AND they will be embarking on a US tour starting on September 20 with Hooray For Earth and Beige so get your tickets! If their upcoming album is as catchy as this song, I foresee a very successful US tour.
And get this, if you pre-order their new album, you'll get their CD, LP, MP3, FLAC downloads PLUS limited edition LP test pressing, limited-edition cassette version of album, limited-edition t-shirt, two buttons AND a unique limited edition pedal created by the band. How often does that happen?!
Stay tuned for a full album review of Lenses Alien this month!
