Why do we like this?
Sydney band Cull's earlier material was featured prominently on Indie Shuffle earlier this year, with their quirky, diverse music quickly finding its way into our welcoming hearts. Formed just last year by a core of well-versed local talents, the band's debut EP BÃ ná»™i is due out later this year -- a release that will no doubt announce their status as one of the best up-and-coming Australian acts.
New single "World Inside Your Head" is a psych-driven adventure powered by ponderous vocals, reverb-heavy guitar explosions, and twisted key arrangements. The almost lethargic opening really opens up towards the end, with a grand instrumental masterclass in shoegaze/psych-rock. Who needs hallucinogens when you have music like this?
I find some psychedelic music slightly challenging, or mood-driven, but I could listen to Cull any day of the week. Keep an eye out for their EP release in October, but in the meantime check out their previous releases here.
