This song sort of reminds me of the way I imagine one of those sensory deprivation rooms must feel like. Although I wouldn’t describe the sound as psychedelic, it does feel a bit out of body feel to it.
“18” begins with a deep, resounding intro. The climactic start sets the pace for the rest of the track. Once the vocals are added in, they continue toppling over one another, creating a ripple effect.
If you close your eyes, it seems like the notes are bouncing off the walls of an empty room. Everything ends with a slight echo effect. The louder I played “18” through my headphones, the more cinematic it sounded, and the more immersed I felt.
The sonorous song comes from the Australian band, Cub Sport. While pushing the boundaries of pop, their gorgeous songwriting and use of synth keeps them well within the category.
“18” is from their new album,LIKE NIRVANA.
