The first time I came across Craig Stickland’s music was when I caught his opening set for the band Hudson Taylor in Boston last year. Since that show, I’ve been a huge fan of his music and his latest album is one now of my go-tos.
No matter the tempo or rhythm, Stickland’s vocals are consistently smooth. (If you think he sounds great in this audio, you should hear him when he’s only a few feet away from you.) I can’t get enough of his raw and slightly bluesy voice, and his unique style that blends pop and rock.
This song in particular is one I'm having trouble shutting off. It's all about not being able to get your past with someone out of your head. He describes a situation most of us have been in, especially in the lyrics “We used to hate those kinds of people / But now those people are you and I / And ever since you've become a stranger / All that's left are my red eyes.”
Stickland is a Canadian artist who is currently based in LA. This track comes from his debut album Starlit Afternoon, which he dropped earlier this year.
