Why do we like this?
No other artist moves me quite like Johnny Cash does. His lyrics are steeped in brutal honesty and there is a haunting quality to the simplicity of his melodies. When you listen to Johnny Cash, you feel his pain as if it were your own.
It comes as no surprise that Cousin Marnie was raised on a musical diet of country music -- claiming artists such as Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette as her heroines. Her new track, "Cain," features Cousin Marnie telling the bloody tale of Cain and Abel over piercing piano stabs. The track soon morphs into an electro pop beast, with rattling drums and resonating basslines -- closer to Kanye than Cash. It's a wondrous mix of old and new, with one foot in left-field electronic music and the other in traditional folk.
"Cain" will be released in April via the independent label Tiny Consumer.
