Picture floating on a dream cloud during a pink and orange sunset, this is the song playing in the background. The intoxicatingly raw landscape of her music video is a perfect visualization of the track's melodic synth paired with a soft, yet staccato, percussion. With only one single on Spotify, nothing yet on SoundCloud, and a select few videos in the distant corners of YouTube, Cornelia Murr is a mysterious music goddess that is paradoxically familiar and new; her alias is Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
Miss Murr's face and general aura make me believe that Florence Welch and Michelle Pfeiffer went off and had a love child in an alternate universe, who then managed to travel to our world and create music.
According to her website, she was born in London, has lived in several locations in the States as a dual citizen, and is currently based in LA. Her site's bio accurately describes her new musical project:
"Working with producer Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Murr conjures a hazy blend of folk and cosmic soul music, her voice floating over ghostly soundscapes that bring to mind the fantasias of Broadcast, Stereolab’s most pastoral moments, and the spooky romance of Beach House."
Cornelia Murr releases her debut LP of psychedelic sunshine lullabies, titled Lake Tear of the Clouds, on July 13th, but for those lucky enough to be in LA June 1st, she will be performing at The Lodge Room with Jerry Paper. In the meantime, fans can find their 27 minute fix from a fan-posted live performance on YouTube.
