This song came up last night as I was concocting a marinade for some steaks that I'll be eating later today (all of you anti-marinade steak-purists can get at me). As the track began, I thought to myself, "Nice. Interesting cover choice." Then the beat and synth arpeggios came in at the first chorus and I let out an audible Owen Wilson-esque "Woooow!"
The original version of "Put Your Records On" is one of my guilty pleasures -- a truly feel-good song and excellent anthem for ushering in the summer season. This cover is a brilliant indie-pop take on the 2000's hit. It may be blasphemous to say, but this might be one of those scenarios where I actually prefer the cover to the original.
