Why do we like this?
Sometimes, you need to throw percussion and beats out the window and try to find tranquility. At least that's what Connor Youngblood attempted to do on his most recent single. After listening to "Mercury, " I can confidently say that Mr. Youngblood uncovered that peaceful expanse he was seeking during the recording process.
The song, which shares the namesake of the closest planet to the sun and the element also known as quicksilver, is very Bon Iver-esque. The infusion of chant-like vocals, combined with the soulful and disorganized melody, makes for an introspective, blissful listen.
Fresh of his SXSW grind, the underground standout is will soon release a new EP, titled Confidence. He's spectacular when all by his lonesome, yet has also showcased the ability to collaborate, as we heard on Skizzy Mars's track "Phases" back in 2013.
One thing for sure is, whether solo or as a feature, I'm always excited to hear new material from this talented human being. Look out for the new project on April 1.
