This track is perfect for a montage scene in a coming of age movie. If I was the main character, I’d definitely want this to play over some cinematic shots. The intro incorporates a pretty, twinkling sound that really pulled me in. Quickly from there, I was drawn to the lyrics.
The vocals are effortlessly gentle. He’s not trying to sing faintly, but he has a naturally hushed singing voice that softens everything around him. This painful breakup song is crafted by someone going through real heartache and loss. I especially admire the lyrics about feeling your love with someone else fade away, and the sense of nostalgia wrapped in heartbreak and fear that comes with it.
Like in these lines, “Broke this world we built / And we've only ourselves to blame / Crying all of your makeup on my shirt / I don't know how to let go / It was you always.”
