I get pretty disenchanted with the huge volume of remixes, mashups and edits popping up each week, and while I completely understand how useful they are for artists, I find a lot of them really predictable and tiring. That said, every now and then I'm sent one which really blows my mind, and the latest is this gem from The Kite String Tangle.
Released as a free download just in time for his first American appearances at next week's SXSW conference, he's meshed two of this year's standout ambient releases together -- Coldplay's "Midnight" with Porter Robinson's "Sea of Voices." While I've been all for Coldplay's new direction, I was unfamiliar with the latter's epic masterpiece, and have spent the last twenty minutes with it on repeat. The mashup itself is supremely pieced together, and the songs couldn't be more suited to one another. "Midnight Voices" contains a perfect amount of both of the originals, while TKST has done a great job to add his own touch to the track without overdoing it. Thumbs up all round!
The Kite String Tangle's debut EP will be out in the coming months - if you're at SXSW next week, make sure to check out at least one of his performances (details below).
