From deep within the archives of my old external hard drive comes a beautiful and addictive, yet somehow temporarily forgotten, track: "Werewolf," by freak folk sister-duo CocoRosie.
The experimental musical group, consisting of Bianca "Coco" and Sierra "Rosie" Cassidy, has released five full-length albums since their creation in late 2003, with "Werewolf" taken off of their third studio album titled
The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn. At almost five minutes long, "Werewolf" is a dark yet ambient, lullaby-influenced track, with raspy female vocals and smooth choruses that chime harmoniously. At 128 bpm, the dreamwave tune consists of mostly minor chords that resonate on a deep, almost personal, level -- that is, until you realize that the lyrics you just heard did indeed say "yeah, I suck dick" or "stains on my sheet, and stains on my bed." Hell, it may still resonate deep within some of you, I don't judge.
Give this track and others like it (notably "Rainbow Warriors" off the same album) a listen, and you'll be instantly hooked.
