Why do we like this?
This comment has been directed at me a lot: "Well, I don't really like it, but you like repetitive things so..."
Every time I hear this, I have the same reaction. I inhale a deep breath, because my response already seems overwhelmingly too complicated; I mull over a starting point, which usually lands somewhere close to ADD study statistics or electronic music appreciation. After deciding that neither of those explanations can even touch what it is I feel nor warrant the energy I would burn on their brief revelation, I just give them a knowing smile and decide: there are those who "get it," and those who don't.
If you don't get it, don't feel bad. It's just a tick. Like, how some people like the pain of a tattoo and some don't. If you do get it, you will probably like this track by Cocolores called "Unfinished Things." The German DJ duo, consisting of Jason Heath and Manuel Garay, recently released this track via Dirt Crew. It's dark and resilient, just like the Motor City; just like the cold clarity of repetition. Get it?
If you'd like to purchase "Unfinished Things," find it via Beatport.
