Why do we like this?
Co$$, aka CashUsKing, is carrying the tradition of funky, lyrical, hood Los Angeles hip-hop. Though he never quite got the looks of partner-in-rhyme Blu, Co$$ has an incredibly underrated discography of loosies and mixtape tracks that are personal, poignant, and fierce. He's back with the feel-good "All For The Sunny."
Since I first heard Co$$ some years ago, I noticed he had the ability to make himself at home over most any type of beats. From boom-bap to West Coast and more bugged out soundbeds, Co$$ has never been afraid to experiment, and as a fan of lyrics and flow, I can hardly recall a boring performance from the Leimert Park MC.
"All For The Sunny" is a very L.A.-sounding song about L.A. A fluid bass line and some Saturday afternoon vibes make the home run easy for Co$$. He doesn't slack though; there are at least three different instances of a marked flow change up. His hood imagery is on point and vivid, if not terribly new. Fans of Kendrick Lamar and TDE should hear an MC that's speaking from a similar background in a voice that's more journalistic than grandiose.
