Why do we like this?
CMAT is the moniker for Irish-born Clara Mary-Alice Thompson, who, based on this song you might guess is a folk songwriter from the heart of Tennessee. This twisted little number is only a peek at CMAT's wicked sense of humor that is showcased across her debut album —If My Wife New I'd Be Dead.
The song's hook, "I like you Peter," is irresistible, but "I wish you were a wife-leaver" is a scandalous revelation. CMAT places you in a scene of 1960s Hollywood, flirting with a young Peter Bogdanovich at a sexy bar, talking up his amaaaazing film criticism. In some ways I don't know what to make of this song. But the absurdity of CMAT draws you in that much closer.
