Why do we like this?
Listening to a song from Client Liaison is like taking a trip into a bygone era. Formed a couple of years back, the Melbourne-based duo had a breakout 2013 with the release of their hugely popular cult-single "Feeling."
With solid support from radio and online (as well as their flamboyant live shows), Client Liaison was in high demand on the local festival circuit, and were hand-picked to appear at the upcoming Melbourne-leg of the Laneway Festival tour. With the buzz around them continuing its ascension, they've just treated us to their (in my opinion) finest music to date with "Free of Fear."
Their music (and entire essence) centers around the 80s and early 90s, and they do not spare any indulgence when creating their work. "Free of Fear" is a throbbing, synth-driven masterpiece which tips its hat to artists like the Pet Shop Boys and more recently, Cut Copy -- but does so in a way that is truly Australian (although it might take an Australian to notice!). While I haven't been entirely sold on their past releases, this track is a winner for me.
Perfectionism doesn't just sit within the band's music, but filters down through every aspect of their make-up. A perfect example of this is the accompanying video for "Free of Fear," which I encourage you to enjoy in its entirety below. It includes power suits, baby crocodiles, and some of the finest hairstyles around -- pure decadence.
