Easing me out of one heck of a wonderful day is Australian singer-songwriter Cleopold. His single “Down in Flames” caught heat today and needs to be heard by everyone bargaining with sleep.
This minimalistic, sexy, smoldering track is off Cleo’s debut EP. Too hot to be left alone, Chet Faker’s boutique record label quickly snatched the rising artist.
Cleopold is not new to this scene, though. Oh no. He’s penned multiple hits for Miami Horror and Cassian, and collaborated with fellow Aussies Bag Raiders. From good company comes great sounds.
“Down in Flames” reminds me so much of Lo-Fang. The aloof beats and sensual vocals make this a perfect track to help untangle the day.
Just before the three-minute mark, you will receive so many goosebumps from the guitar. It reminds me of “I Need A Girl (Part 2)” from P.Diddy and friends, which is probably not what you’re expecting from a mellow pop artist. Don’t try to make assumptions about Cleopold, now. There’s a lot of moody R&B in this song and to be had.
Also, I hear a bolt of Bon Iver during the line, "It's never gonna be mutual."
Intrigued? Living down under? In August Cleopold will support Miami Horror on a national tour of Australia. Go, and SnapChat me the entire time.
