If you're in the mood for some smooth and funky R&B, here’s your song.
Cleo Sol, another fantastic singer from the London music scene, drifts through the vocals on this track. She lets them flow easily instead of forcing them. She also nails the timing of when to let it all out and when to keep the sound more on the hushed side. She uses her voice as an instrument by being able to control it as she sees best fit for the song.
Out of all the lyrics, the ones I love the most are when she says, “tell my younger self to enjoy the ride.” That’s something I wish could go back and tell my past self all the time. There’s no rush to grow up, and this short but meaningful line expresses how many of us didn’t take the time to enjoy our adolescence.
This is the title track off her album, Rose in the Dark, that dropped this year.
