Britain's Circa Waves have made quite a wave (pun) since their 2015 EP, T-Shirt Weather. I'm sure all of the Indie Kids™ remember when that project debuted, especially with the band's punchy and catchy melodies.
Fast forward to 2020, Circa Waves has released double-sided record, Sad Happy. Creatively enough, one side of the album is the sad side, and the other is the happy side. Track, "Sad Happy," happens to be on the happy side. This comes as no surprise when you listen to this song and its explosive, guitar-driven hook; remaining true to their familiar indie pop sound that they became popular for.
"Sad Happy" acts as the bridge between both sides of the album. Although it maintains an upbeat structure, the lyrics emphasize careful introspection. I'm sure most listeners can relate to the strange feeling of experiencing coinciding positive and negative emotions. For me especially, I know the feeling of being both happy and melancholic. A complex, symbiotic relationship.
I hope you enjoy Circa Waves' fourth studio album as much as I do. Cheers <3
