Why do we like this?
Russ Davies' solo indietronica act Cinnamon Chasers returns for its second full-length album, Science. This Londoner first caught my eye with the unique video for 2009 hit "Luv Deluxe," which was awarded "Best Music Video" honors at 2010's SXSW. Now, Cinnamon Chasers is back with the same groovy yet futuristic vibe that made "Luv Deluxe" an instant hit.
What I love about this album is that it has a lot of old school flare to it but still manages to take me into the space age. It's almost like a combination of disco and progressive house, which proves to be a very pleasing combo.
"Have I Said Something" features smooth vocals mixed with the subtle build up that you see in progressive house tracks. When the beat drops in a Cinnamon Chasers song, though, things get a little bit more funky than your average club hit.
"Rocker" is another quality track on the album and it sounds a bit like "Da Funk" from Daft Punk to me, especially at about the 1:50 mark.
Overall, Science is a fun listen the whole way through. Each song has enough variation to keep me interested and there a definitely some gems to add to your music collection.
