Why do we like this?
Ciel Rouge's single, "Kids On Levees," appeared in my inbox early this morning with his presser claiming the New Orleans rapper and producer draws inspiration from Drake and John Legend. Now if any of you out there ever read what I write, you will know that I'm kinda obsessed with Drake, so I had to give "Kid On Levees" a spin. I'm so glad I did.
Incorporating parts of John Legend's "Let's Get Lifted Again," Rouge is joined by Sasha Masakowski on the delightful snare snapping tune. Rouge's intricate rhymes illustrate the hardships of post-Katrina New Orleans, while jazz crooner Masakowski's adds authenticity to Rouge's raps. While the Drake connection isn't greatly emphasized, the two do share a penchant for emotive lyrics and tight flows.
New Orleans bounce is still well and truly alive.
