After the release of haunting singles "Graphene 1tb For Jeremy" and "3 Ravens," mysterious female artist Chrysanthemum Bear has just released her debut album Prophecy,
The 10-track record is an absorbing journey through folk, electronica, goth-pop, and Celtic sounds, with Chrysanthemum Bear's beguiling vocals anchoring the various soundscapes.
One of my favorite tracks on the album is the intriguing title track. Chrysanthemum Bear's sings about dragons breath and claims "the prophecy will be fulfilled," over a bubbling synth production incorporating strange vocal samples.
The elusive artist hasn't participated in any press for the album, but informed us working with Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood got her thinking about the "ancient past and singing style into the present day," while revealing the themes of the album are influenced by "connections between her family and the oral tradition of music on South Uist and the Outer Hebrides of Scotland."
