The name Chloe Lilac sounds so sweet but her sound on this single is anything but delicate. To me, it echoes some early 2000’s emo, like Avril Lavigne or Paramore's early hits. The chorus is a direct take from "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus (2000).
“Moderation” is a rock song at its core, mostly because I felt a real sense of angst come out of the singer’s vocals. Plus, you can’t just ignore the rebellious guitar and bold drums.
The Brooklyn-based musician gives bedroom pop much more of an edge. Instead of focusing on soft synth and keeping her vocals airy, she goes full force into a heavy sound that’s made to be played at top volume. Although the song is short and concise, I could have listened to it go on all day.
This single came out in April and follows her debut EP,Manic Pixie Dream, that she released last year.
