I think it's about time we expose our viewers to Chiddy Bang, an insane electronic hip hop duo out of Philadelphia. Behold: an unstoppable indie-anthem-sampling, dance-party-creating, rhyme-loving, all out feel-good duo set to explode onto the indie world. As soon as I heard the MGMT sampled "Opposite of Adults" courtesy of Jess A, I knew these guys were sure to blow up not only the indie scene, but potentially mainstream hip hop as well
. Chiddy Bang's innovative hip hop fusion very well could be where hip hop is heading this decade.
These dudes have been referred to both as "a hipster's wet dream" and the "evolution of hip hop." While I'm certainly in agreement that these guys will gain mass appeal in no time, I would also concur that what we're hearing here isn't even hip hop as we know it, but more of a newly created indie-electro-hop.
Labels aside, be sure to check out their latest album "The Swelly Express" for several of your favorite indie songs (MGMT, Sufjan, and Belle & Sebastian, for starters) in conjunction with some fantastic newly layed rhymes. Oh, and my favorite part of the story: the album was co-produced by the Roots' Black Thought. How these college students recruited one of the best rappers in the world to not only drop a track with them but also produce their album is beyond me. A testament to their abilities I suppose. Be on the lookout for their their latest mixtape "Air Swell," set to release within the next couple of months. Get ready world, Chiddy Bang is here to stay. Oh yeah, the below music video is pretty awesome too.
