Ladies, gentlemen, and beard lovers of the world, unite: Chet Faker is back.
"Bend" is the first new track we've heard since 2014's Built On Glass. The award-winning record, alongside his collaborative EP with Flume cemented Chet, aka Nick Murphy, as one of Australia's most valuable and popular exports.
Murphy says that this track was recorded at the same time as the Built on Glass material. I find that interesting, because it feels SO different. There's bubbly synth textures, soaring funk guitars, and more that I've never really heard in his music before.
It's free, it's loose, it's funky. It feels like this was recorded during a brief moment where he wasn't taking himself so seriously. To be completely honest, that unrelenting dedication to seriousness was why I kind of got over Chet Faker in the past few months -- so "Bend" has left me with a re-invigorated affection for the Melbourne artist.
