How many of you fine Shufflers frequent Dat Piff? If you didn't raise your hand, then there's a chance you missed out on some fresh fresh hip-hop from 15-year-old rapper Chester Watson. The Missouri-based MC is also a producer and playwright. In case you're a speed reader, take a another second to process that we're dealing with a super young, super talented dude.
Chester goes in "” eyes low, hoodie up "” on "Gumball," which first appeared on Chuck Inglish's latest instrumental tape. For the four other people who might care, Chuck's original version is titled "
Gumball Machine." Chester Watson makes great use of the Cool Kid's production on his third release,
Phantom. I'm also a big fan of the release's title track, and Watson's work with Tokyo producer
Bugseed. All three cuts feature sharp, promising wordplay from a talented artist who's in no rush.
If you have a few minutes this weekend, you should slow down, and let
Phantom ride out.
