Why do we like this?
Shufflers, have we got a 'lil treat for you today! One of our own, Christiana Bartolini, recently sent me a sneak peek of her band Cherokee Red's album for an exclusive here on Indie Shuffle. And (I'm not just saying this because she's one of our dear writers) I'm really digging it.
Cherokee Red comes from the low lying valley of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. With just a laptop and a bag of various hand percussion instruments, Christiana and pianist/guitarist Charles Davis founded the band, eventually coming together with Dirk Dekker (bassist/guitarist), Andrew Sgarlat (drums/guitar), and Brittany Thomas guitar/vox) to form Cherokee Red.
Self-described as "woozy dream pop, eerie folk, and beyond," the band is creating a brand of indie pop that combines fuzzy rock with slow, honey sweet vocals, reminiscent of Camera Obscura's slower tracks, Mazzy Star, and maybe a little bit of Beach House thrown into the mix.
The band is self-producing their first album, which will debut in the spring of 2012.
