New music from Moodymann always has us excited, and although we slept on this remix of Charlotte OC for a few months, we're still enjoying it.
There's not a lot to be said about Moodymann that hasn't been said already. The man is a master of soulful house, helping to define the Detroit sound alongside artists like Theo Parrish.
Because of the levels he hits, he is one of the few artists to get away with quite abstract tunes (Madlib is another) -- the free-jazz-influenced last three minutes of "I'd Rather Be Lonely," for instance.
However, on this remix of Charlotte OC's "Hangover," he actually reigns it in somewhat, with a slightly more conventional sound -- not that it loses any of the soulfulness that Moodymann is renowned for. It might actually be the best place to start your Moodymann journey if you aren't already familiar.
