San Francisco, like many areas in the world, is a breeding ground for musicians and artists alike. Cathedrals, a duo from this city by the bay, is a favorite over here at Indie Shuffle so naturally it's great to wake up to a new track from the artists today.
"Don't Act Like A Stranger" is the first single from their latest body of work, and a welcome release from Brodie Jenkins and Johnny Hwin. A musical story which found its catalyst in of the opposite sides of love - the truly deep burn only it can provide be it falling in or out of the coveted state of being - it's really quite intriguing. Focus on the melody and upbeat feeling of Jenkins' caramel vocals, the guitar bathes you in the warm blanket of a breezy spring day, a sprinkling of sunlight and laughter floating in the air; the lyrics, however, are literally another story. Expression of something that can only be likened to a painful loss of a meaningful love, the words are tragically beautiful, turning the track into a giant dichotomy - but something that simply works. There's a balance that the musicians' two perspectives drive within the track which allows it to simultaneously explore pain and euphoria, fueled by the heart, and digested beautifully by the listener.
With some super solid tracks in their repertoire, this latest track is more of the delicious same - that being solid, impeccably written songs that are attention-grabbing but deep beyond that initial listen, and always celebrating their own individuality.
