Caroline Lazar is currently in college in Miami living with her friends and her cat, has to drink two cups of black coffee before she can talk to people, her "lifelong dream" is to move to her "granddad’s farm in New Zealand and raise a family of donkeys," and she happens to have one of the most dynamic new voices in music right now.
"Trigger," off of her brand new EP Nevermine, is the only evidence you need to see why. It starts off by delicately revealing her powerfully raw vocals over light brushes of acoustic guitar and understated production before slowly climbing its way towards an organ-filled explosion of a climax, which feels like an absolute kick in the gut as she belts the question "are you the trigger or the whole damn gun?"
It's a rare combination of natural talent, gorgeous songwriting, poetic imagery, and defiance of formulaic structure, and it feels like only the beginning.
Nevermine is out now via My Little Empire Records.
