Carlos Niño is one of a kind. With a brain that vaults fearlessly past the clouds and feet planted firmly in the pavement, the brown Niño has midwifed too many scenes, artists, sounds and moments to name. His public radio show on KPFK, Soundwaves, endured for years as a bastion of originality and fearless programming.
A producer in the old-school sense, he’s also released more than a dozen collections of music, always in collaboration and always exploring the articulations of love on wax. His latest collection looks like it’s a capstone project.
Flutes, Echoes, It’s All Happening! (yes, that is the album name and it is awesome), is coming to us via the forever high Leaving Records. With collaborations with stalwarts like Madlib, Kamasi Washington and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, as well as promises of incorporation of old audio sketches and demos, the verbosely titled album seems poised to be quite the experience.
