Why do we like this?
Blindfolds have always made me a little nervous. Maybe it was my upbringing, but any time someone in my life asked me to wear a blindfold, I was always preparing myself for the cruelest of pranks. I guess as we go through life we really rely on our sight, not trusting what's in front of us without actually seeing it. Thankfully, music gives us a brief escape from seeing all that's around us, so we can just close our eyes and lose ourselves, if only for a few minutes.
If you're looking for a track to get lost in for the next four minutes and 44 seconds, I have the perfect song for you. With a brand new EP simply called Blindfold, the indie pop trio Canopy Climbers are back at it. This time around, they have a bit of a darker sound and heavier electronic influence on their production; moreover, they've managed to continue to grow as a group without even living in the same city.
The first single off of Blindfold shares the same name as the EP, and delves into living life in the dark and not being able to see what's really in front of you. The track features a Radiohead-influenced beat with layers of synths, guitar, and drums fighting for control, yet still finding order and structure. Don't worry though, there are still plenty of soaring pop hooks that Canopy Climbers have made their mainstay.
You can go download the entirety of Blindfold over on iTunes, but before you do that, just close your eyes and listen. You might just be able to see what's really going on around you.
